Tweaking Google Android Market

Google’s Android Market is being repaired.

Android App Store will soon launch several new updates in its forthcoming version 1.6, according to the Android Developers Blog, Eric Chu of Google on Thursday.

Developers will be able to provide screenshots, icons and descriptions to better promote and highlight their applications.

Four new subcategories App - sports, health, themes and comics - are now added, Chu said. Developers can use any of these sub-categories for new and existing applications.

For reasons not explained Chu, developers Android App in Italy are getting some special attention. Italian designers will be able to call the publisher’s site to download their applications and specify any country where paid services are currently available for customers.

In a video accompanying the blog Chu, updated interface - as rumors - also opens up new buttons for Paid Top, top free, and only in, and click “search” in upper right corner of the screen.

Google introduced Android Market years ago as the equivalent of Android Apple ITunes Store. Since its debut, Google is trying to attract developers to publish their applications in the store. Initially, only the free services were available. But in January, Google has opened a market for paid software in order to attract more developers.

Google offered another carrot for attracting developers, such as the annual Android Developer Challenge, which offers prizes for programmers with the best applications.

However, a recent survey by AdMob found that less than half the owners have acquired Android phone application, citing the lack of hot applications and limited payment options.
