Machine Biochar mobile phone ‘,’ to work in the field

Ancient technique for fertilizing the soil, creating carbon from plant waste being revived to solve some environmental problems of today.

The latest company to pursue an artificial coal, called Biochar, a Biochar Systems, which developed Biochar making machine, which can be harnessed pickup. Two customers - a farm in North Carolina and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management - will begin testing unit this fall.

Group called Biochar 1000, is designed for converting woody biomass such as agricultural or forestry waste, Biochar, black, porous, and fine-grained charcoal, which can be used as fertilizer. It uses pyrolysis - slow burning of biomass in the low-oxygen chamber - to treat 1000 pounds of biomass per hour, yielding 250 pounds of Biochar.

Biochar 1000 converts agricultural waste charcoal, which is then added to the soil, a process which enriches the soil and removes carbon from the air.

There is not yet well-developed market for the sale Biochar, but growing interest among researchers in this process as a way to reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases. The United Nations has proposed to classify Biochar as carbon credits for carbon sequestration from the atmosphere.

When the forestry and agricultural wastes are transformed into Biochar and put in soil carbon that would have been released through the decomposition is carried out in the soil for hundreds or potentially thousands of years, say supporters.

A number of companies have created, or to create fertilizer or to use modified vehicles to convert biomass into liquid fuels such as methanol. First U.S. Biochar conference was held in Boulder, Colorado, two weeks ago, organized by the International Biochar Initiative Branch.

Tonnes of green waste
Biochar Systems, a joint venture Biochar EcoTechnologies and Technology Group has developed a mobile machine is aimed at landowners, or other organizations that generate a lot of “green waste” such as farmers, nurseries, or land. Biochar can be used on site as a soil amendment or moved and sold as fertilizer, according to Fernando Migliassi, chief corporate development officer at EcoTechnologies group.

Bureau of Land Management will use one unit, which weighs 4000 kilograms and 12 feet long, seven feet tall and five feet wide, to improve the soil affected by mining, in accordance with Biochar Systems. North Carolina Farm Center for Innovation & Sustainability will use the test unit, and to see how agricultural waste can be converted into fertilizer.

The Biochar Systems Biochar 1000 costs $ 100,000 and is capable of turning out 1,000 tons of biochar a year.

Another unit will be tested by the Colorado State Forest Service to thin forests and treated with tons of pine beetle infested wood in soil amendment. Thinning the forest by hand is very expensive, but Biochar machine may be cheaper route.

“If possible, this will allow us to manage much of the forest lands that now are not economically efficient,” Joseph Duda, head of forest management on the Colorado State Forest Service, told ClimateWire.

U.S. produces 368 million tons of waste wood products per year and another 60 million tons per year of wood infected by the pine beetle, in accordance with Biochar Engineering. Having a mobile device reduces the overall pollution as biomass does not need to tow for treatment in a centralized plant, according to the company.

But, although it has the potential to mitigate climate change, some people have warned against relying on Biochar as a carbon offset. Impact Biochar land may have changed since then, thousands of years ago, when people in the Amazon region has created coal, called Terra Preta.

“But despite its remarkable potential, caution is warranted in the implementation of Biochar on any significant scale. While the re-establishment of Terra Preta sounds simple, recent studies show that modern soils may respond less to treatment and that carbon can run faster than expected . On these issues alone, all the evidence, not in “, according to a recent editorial in the journal Nature on Climate Change.

Mobile phones are sufficient for web users in Japan

It’s no secret that Japan has the best mobile phones than the rest of the world. The country also has access to higher quality Internet telephony services from the start I was NTT DoCoMo’s service mode is still in 1998.

Recent data from japan.internet.com (translated whatjapanthinks.com) believes that Japan mobile phones offer users many features that 49 percent of respondents to a recent survey say “mobile phone is enough” when asked what kind of mobile device they are most would hold.

Mobile enough to 49,2 per cent
Smartphone 22 percent
Netbook 16,3 per
Notebook 8.9 per
MID / UMPC 0,3 per cent
Another 0.3 percent
Do not want to bear all the 3 per cent

In addition to the wealth of services and games, with the character based typing you really do not need an iPhone or other smartphones, if you want access to corporate e-mail. Although it can also be delivered directly to mobile phones, in my experience, most companies do not allow access if it is through a VPN.

So, let’s assume that everyone has a telephone. Answering the question “what mobile devices, in addition to standard mobile phone you usually carry with you?” The answers that I would consider the cultural match with the way Japanese consumers commute, as well as the fact that most access to the Internet directly to their phones.

Nintendo DS 44,3 per
No mobile 39.3 percent
Notebook 19,7 percent
Sony PSP 16 per
Netbook 4,7 per cent
Smartphone 3.4 per

There is fun to play in the future as the domination of Nintendo DS brings new areas of convergent game phones that can not be too far away, as game companies are aware that the mobile Internet is the final frontier completely obsessive game.

And although I did not expect to see this magical device in the U.S. in the near future, I suspect that there is a market for such things in Japan.

North Americans to pay more for mobile phone service

Cell phones in the United States, Spain, Canada, and pay more for mobile phone, mobile phone users than in other parts of the world, according to a survey published by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

OECD surveyed mobile operators in 30 member countries. The report showed, on average, how much consumers spend in one year.

For the consumer to subscribe for the medium to use package which provides about 780 minutes of voice, 600 short messages, as well as eight multimedia messages, the survey found that the monthly service fee ranges from $ 11 per month for the work in the Netherlands up to $ 53 per month for work in the United States as of August 2008.

On an annual basis, the American mobile phone users spend about $ 635.85 for cell phone service. Spanish mobile phone users pay about $ 508.26 per year. And the Canadian cell phone subscribers pay about $ 500.63. Unlike people in the Netherlands and Finland the lowest amount paid for cell phone service is $ 131.44 per year. A mobile phone user in Sweden only pay $ 137.94 a year.

Prices for mobile phone service has been steadily declining over the years. The survey results show that between 2006 and 2008 mobile voice prices fell by an average of about 21 percent for low-use consumers, 28 percent for secondary use, and about 32 percent of subscribers with high consumption patterns. Text messaging remains a lucrative business for mobile operators, the report also says.

However, the results of this study also indicate a continued gap between what users of mobile phones in North America compared to paying what they pay in other parts of the world, such as in Scandinavia. This should not come as a huge shock, given that Europe, as a rule, offered less than the internal plans of American providers. But it is somewhat surprising that Spain has the second most expensive in the world of mobile communications.

It is likely that the United States will continue to be the most expensive country in the world to use mobile phone. As carriers build faster 4G network, they can raise prices on higher end services. However, if the economy continues to get hammered, in turn, consumers may have to reduce the cost of prepaid services, which offer flat-rate pricing.

These plans are becoming more popular in recent times. There are also signs that increased competition may lead to lower prices for these services. But even if they offer good value, they are still not using the main. And most U.S. mobile phone users subscribe to a plan for post-paid.

Week in review: dialed in on the iPhone OS 3.0

All eyes were on Apple earlier this week, thanks to the company’s eagerly anticipated launch iPhone 3.0, its third generation of software for operating the popular smartphone. And the company delivered, with improvements like cut-and-paste function, and improving search capabilities.

Microsoft, meanwhile, mixed things up in the middle of its so-called Mix confab for Web designers, running Internet Explorer 8, and talking up the next version of its Flash competitor, Silverlight. Talks about the possibility of acquiring IBM Sun Microsystems also made some major headlines.

Improving iPhone
Apple on Tuesday released the next version of its operating system, iPhone, called version 3.0, on the invite only event of its Cupertino, Calif., headquarters.

As general director Steve Dzhobs on temporary leave, Apple in Scott Forstall, head of iPhone software development, has assumed the leading role, and did so successfully. He kept the focus on new software, demonstrating the ability to gently explain complex topics with confidence and a sense of humor.

Of the 100 new features Apple iPhone with the promise of 3.0, key improvements include a much-awaited copy-paste functionality, system-wide search, a landscape keyboard, MMS, push notifications, and P2P.

Apple to competitors, of course, quick to point out that the most prominent features introduced with iPhone 3.0 are features that are found on many other smartphones.

iPhone 3.0 was obtained immediately for developers and will be available to all the other “this summer.” This is a free update for users of iPhone; who owns IPod Touch again to pay for the upgrade.

Developers are likely those who will be most excited about the new iPhone OS. The ability to use background notifications, for example, would be far more attractive to iPhone and IPod Touch applications, as is evident from some of the demonstrations on Tuesday.

In addition, developers will have the new 1000 interface API (application programming interfaces) to play that will unlock the iPhone parts previously closed or inaccessible to third-party applications. Apple did not get all of them, but talked about how the developers are now able to stream audio and video, send e-mail within an application, and use the iPhone sensor, which means, Google will again be in accordance with the Software iPhone Development Kit.

It will not take long for developers to get cracking on iPhone OS 3.0. IPhone Dev-Team has recognized that it can be jailbroken but issued a warning to some 3G users want to get that shine a new copy paste function.

The developers also began to turn, interesting tidbits about the possible future devices. Two vague references in the beta may be an indication that Apple is planning for this software, which is bound for the iPhone or IPod Touch. And later this week, it was confirmed that AT & T plans to offer $ 599 and $ 699 iPhones with a two-year contract starting next week. There, in the catch, however, these numbers will continue to be locked to AT & T network.

In other news Apple, Psystar, Apple Least favorite clone Maker, has a new desktop that comes with Mac OS X preinstalled for $ 599.

Microsoft Mix-es his
Microsoft argued Spotlight later this week in Las Vegas at Mix, its annual confab for Web designers, where he launched Internet Explorer 8 and the new version of their web tools, notably its rival Adobe Flash, Silverlight.

Software giant on Thursday began to IE 8, which was within a few months of testing. The new browser adds security improvements, the private viewing options, as well as the opportunity to save up to a certain “pieces” in a web page for immediate viewing.

But perhaps the biggest change in the browser, one made behind the scenes - a decision that the browser is better to adhere to web standards. This should make life easier for web developers in the future, but also creates problems for the compatibility of sites optimized specifically for older versions of IE. As part of the solution to this problem, Microsoft has a “compatibility” mode, which lets you specify web sites if they would be run by an engine that is more like the old browser version.

Installing Internet Explorer 8 - Photo
In addition to launching the browser, Microsoft kicked off its campaign that consumers actually use it instead of Firefox or other rivals. The release of IE 8 comes at a critical time for Microsoft, which faces its steepest competition in years, facing competition not only confidence in Firefox, but also from Apple and Google, and others. Global market share of Internet Explorer, which was more than 90 per cent in 2004, ended last year at just above 70 percent, relative to pure applications.

CNET staff took a closer look at the browser, and came to the conclusion, took a big leap forward. But it was still there enough to do on Firefox, Chrome, and Safari fan switch.

And an interesting twist, JavaScript - a scripting language so that the long lurked inconspicuously through the web site ‘code - the main battleground in this second era of Web browser wars.

Back in the Mix 09, Microsoft corporate VP Scott Guthrie said Silverlight, noting that so far there are 350 million units and said Microsoft believes is now 300000 targeting developers Silverlight.

Among the new features Silverlight 3 is the ability to use your computer as a graphic processor offers hardware acceleration of video (both PC and Mac). The company made the beta version is available Wednesday.

Also presented to the mix had a conversation with the computing pioneer Bill Buxton, who started with the chat, which is the UN Microsoft feel. He ran back and forth on the stage, gesturing wildly and talking passionately about the need to create a better experience. Buxton urged the crowd not to hung on the programming at first, but only sketch their ideas on paper.

“These things are very important to take seriously,” he said. “We must be able to play.”

Will the sun shine IBM help?
IBM, is reportedly in talks to buy Sun Microsystems for $ 6.5 billion in cash, which received industry observers said this week that such a step is a good idea.

At ZDNet, Larry Dignan, for example, noted that the positioning in the market for servers and open source resources are just a few reasons for the seizure of the deal makes sense for IBM.

Adds a CNET Matt Asay, Sun is trying to revive their financial prospects in the light of decline in interest in its Solaris operating system and related equipment. Open source was a big bright spot on the Sun, but Sun the opportunity to recoup losses hardware with free software was a suspect.

On the other hand, however, CNET News’ Stephen Shenklend highlights some potential difficulties Big Blue may encounter, ranging from the duplication of hardware and software assets to cultural differences: Sun, based in Silicon Valley, is the engineering center, free circulation of company is ready to try out many ideas and see which of these Stick. IBM is more conservative, and on the initiative of business problems.

Meanwhile, this week, Sun announced its entry into the cloud business in the public cloud computing service for developers, students and beginners. He also detailed plans to open its cloud-computing infrastructure for public or private clouds.
