IPod Touch formal review: Still Awesome

OK, I know many of you there are a disappointment at the fact that Apple has neglected the grace of his latest IPod Touch with a camera. I feel your pain. As a journalist and Tech gadget nerd, I love nothing more than to Gush about how IPod Touch can put your baby in HD or bring Augmented Reality applications and games. Well, she can not.

This is very annoying when wishes are not fulfilled. For an objective write your review, I had to go though all the stages of my grief. I stood on the roof of CNET and shouted: “I forgive you, Steve, for failure to IPod Touch camera.” Well, not really - but I thought about it.

The truth is that the IPod Touch-remains the best portable media player there. No other product you will be games, e-mail, voice control, rent videos, Bluetooth, Internet radio, YouTube, podcasts, music downloads, video downloads, app loading, voice notes, and an almost limitless expansion of Courtesy Apps (including music subscription) and third-party equipment. If you can not find something to love about the Ipod Touch, you got a serious screw loose.

So, here’s my full review of third-generation IPod Touch. If it looks the same score I gave last year, you’re right … class. My score for the 8GB model with a half-star lower, to reflect the fact that he lacks the same features as the 32GB and 64GB models. Also, please note that I have not made Editor’s Pick award. It could still happen, but I want to fully as Zune Archos prepare before I start handing out ribbons.

Even more angry unspectacular update from Apple’s IPod Touch and the unrealized potential of the camera Touch? Pour your pain in the comments section. Just make sure you read my affectionate Zune HD post to call me, as a kind of Apple-loving, communist, OK?

New packages IPod Touch Wi-Fi N ‘,’ FM hardware

Inside Apple updates hidden IPod Touch “N” Wi-Fi equipment, the potential for FM broadcasts, and a place for the camera, according to iFixit.

Gadget disassembly iFixit specialist on Friday said that during the opening of a new device, she found some “unexpected discoveries.”

One of the most notable results was the chip Broadcom BCM4329, which supports 802.11n. “This is a great thing, because even 3GS iPhone does not support 802.11n, said Kyle Wiens of iFixit. Smartphone Apple, which is very similar to look outside to the Ipod Touch, has a Broadcom BCM4325 wireless chip, which only supports 802.11a/b/g Wi -Fi connection, according to Wiens.

“We do not know if the 802.11n will be maintained in the program IPod Touch, but at least the hardware there,” he said.

Broadcom chip also supports FM transmission and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) with a touch screen IPod, able to stream music to stereo. “But it’s a lot of” if “, Wiens said.

iFixit also said that the internal arrangement IPod appears to leave room for the camera at the top of the device. “There is a 6×6x3-millimeter distance between the Broadcom chip and wireless antenna.

Added Wiens: “There is not enough depth for the iPhone-style auto-focus camera, but just enough room for the camera, which Apple uses in its fifth generation Ipod Nano. We did not find any headers on the board for the camera cable.

The fact that the new Ipod Nano integrates a video camera and press did not become mini-scandal, as some observers argue that Steve Jobs may not have revealed the story behind the camera less than Touch. Jobs claimed price prohibitive camera made the game-oriented Touch, while maintaining the blog had more problems with the equipment.

Rhapsody, authorized for iPhone

If you were hoping for Apple to report on the basis of a subscription music service for the iPhone and IPod Touch on Wednesday, as I crush your disappointment: the early morning, Rhapsody, authorized Apple for the iPhone, and it’s available in the ITunes Store.

This is the second such service is Apple approved, but the first, Spotify, not available in the United States. (Rhapsody application does not appear in search results just yet, but it is showing in ITunes.)

Rhapsody was a pioneer in subscription music, and I’m a big fan of the service, in 2005, it was the first to turn me to the thrill of chasing your whims and surfing at random among the genres that you can not do with per-download services such as ITunes.

In my last court late last year (due to the Sonos multi-room audio system), I could not find any significant gaps - In any case, there was too much music, including several versions of the novelty song “Kung Fu Fighting” than I could imagine - and there are some excellent mentoring and editorial work, especially for indie-rock.

IPhone App is quite simple: you can search for songs search for genres, and diagrams, rhinestones, and create queues and playlists. If you are a fan of Pandora, you’ll also appreciate the function of Rhapsody Radio, which creates individual station was built around specific artists and genres. As long as you have an active Wi-Fi or 3G-connection, the music should continue to play without interruption.

It’s free, but to use it, you need to Rhapsody To Go subscription, which costs $ 14.99 per month. This is not quite as good a deal as the Microsoft Zune Pass, which costs the same, and gives you 10 permanent MP3 downloads per month, but, of course, that the service requires the Zune, which means that it applies only in respect of approximately 1,1 per cent MP3-player market (according to statistics that Apple snarkily to include in his presentation of the medium) and zero mobile phones.

Apple, seems to have seen the light, as it is now allowing subscription-based music to come to the iPhone. This makes the 8GB phone for size is much less restrictive.
