Yahoo intros new iPhone and BlackBerry apps

Yahoo unveiled three new mobile applications on Tuesday, as the company continues to pay more attention to the development of specific applications for the iPhone and choice as Smartphones Blackberry.

The most common applications will be announced Tuesday is a Flickr for mobile devices. This application is only available for Apple iPhone and IPod Touch. It’s free ITunes App Store. And it allows users to upload, share and tag photos and video. Flickr is a browser-based mobile App on M.flickr.com.

Official App Flickr for the iPhone and IPod Touch offers search, browse and download features.
Yahoo also created two new mobile applications for several models of Blackberry.

Yahoo Finance for mobile devices running on the iPhone and Ipod Touch, and BlackBerry Bold, Tour and 8900 series. This free application allows users to track the company, market indices and news. This allows users to deploy to specific companies for data storage. Yahoo already have a browser version of the application.

Yahoo also launched Yahoo Fantasy Football for mobile devices. This application is available for the iPhone / IPod Touch and the BlackBerry Bold, Tour and 8900 series. Using this program, football fans can manage their teams from your phone, add and delete players of match-UPS, and player statistics, as well as receive news and expert advice.

These new applications that are designed specifically for the iPhone and multiple devices BlackBerry, are part of the latter company’s strategy to address the mobile market. Earlier this year, Yahoo has changed its strategy for mobile pay more attention to the development of separate and distinct applications, and not to create services, which fell in the comprehensive use of Yahoo.

“Before we had a one-size-fits-all approach to the application market,” said Sandeep Gupta, senior director of mobile applications for Yahoo. “But the iPhone has changed how consumers access applications. Now they want to search and download the application point. And we thought that it was better to us to fit into this world.”

The main objective of Yahoo’s strategy shift to bring Yahoo’s PC-services for mobile phones. And in order to do so, Yahoo executives said they needed to develop and distribute applications, as well as other developers, and this means adopting a model iPhone.

To execute this strategy, Yahoo has taken a dual approach. It offers browser-based applications to its more general properties, such as travel, dating, or some of its entertainment sites. But for the more frequently visited sites such as Flickr and Finance, Yahoo is creating their own applications.

“Yahoo has a huge set of properties that we want to bring to all mobile users,” said Gupta. “But we can not configure the application experience for all of them. It’s too much work. Therefore, we created a broad range of experience for the facilities. And we create a more customized experience App with extensive experience in a specific vertical sites.

In February the company announced a new updated Yahoo Mobile service, which combines all the elements of organizational Yahoo OneSearch, OnePlace and OneConnect together in one application. Redesigned services scrollable Mashup search, news, e-mail, social networking, finance, weather, sports scores, and other RSS-feeds.

The company decided to offer service in more than 400 mobile devices with web-based applications. But he also built a version specifically for the iPhone. App is free to download and is available on ITunes Apple’s App Store.

Now, Yahoo has created three custom applications that have been configured for a particular device. Initially, these applications are only available on the iPhone and some devices BlackBerry. The reason is simple. IPhone and BlackBerry are now the most interactive mobile users, “says Gupta. But he added that the company will ultimately tailor these same applications for other smartphones, such as the Palm to the company and Google Android phones.

“We do not expect these other devices to gain popularity, he said.” The work continues. But it is a question of priorities. There are a lot of investment needed to create such applications. And we have set priorities, which devices have the most interactive user experience. “

If you remember, he went for $ 199.99 at the start, so this is a worthy cause (for Verizon, in any case - it was easy to get a free Storm through third parties for a while now), so I just did not Freak Out at us when replacement hits every month, right?

Yelp 1.0 for Palm Preliminary and bark 1.0 for BlackBerry is much more than their basic iPhone is relative. According to bark, it is a conscious decision to get the basic features there and usable. And, although not much to look at (on the BlackBerry Bold, in any case) Service to maintain its usefulness. We have set the BlackBerry version of the test to find and send us back to our humble place of dinner, without even reading the reviews in the queue to see which menu items were the most recommended. Yelp on the BlackBerry is location-aware and uses the card (Microsoft’s Bing cards, and not Google Maps) and then click to call “to help mobile moaner Out.

Palm WebOS version has the same basic functions, but this experience is leagues ahead versions of BlackBerry. Interface preamps also much more stylish and gives you access to special offers. BlackBerry users can skip these transactions at this stage of shame. Yelp in advance can save the contacts in your address book, and can share listings by email or text. The biggest mistake convenience, we have noticed in advance was required to provide the very end of the record for access to reference site. It would be better to see it in the address block above.

Both versions 1.0 applications no interactive features to upload photos, write reviews, reviews, and rate others. According to barking, more advanced features, such as this will come later.
