Rhapsody music subscription tries iPhone App
Subscription music service Rhapsody, the division of Real Networks, has announced plans to port their services for Apple iPhone and IPod Touch. A blog on Sunday, the company said it will submit an application (shown in the video below), this week Apple for consideration.
Historically, Apple shunned subscription music, which makes it impossible for services such as Napster or Rhapsody to work with the IPod, fearing competition with its own music service ITunes. But the success of iPhone music applications, for example, Pandora, Last.fm, Slacker, and possibly opened the door for subscription services. (Last.fm is a part of CBS Interactive, which publishes CNET News.)
Mobile App Rhapsody will require users to Rhapsody-To-Go account, which currently runs $ 14.95 a month. (Non-subscribers is likely to be offered for a limited time free trial period.) Rhapsody App allows subscribers to explore online and the entire flow’s Rhapsody music catalog via EDGE, 3G or Wi-Fi, as well as create and store a library turns your favorite content. App Do not, however, allows users to download songs and Rhapsody Store directly on the device or the contents of the cache to temporarily listen offline.
If the application is approved Rhapsody Apple, it is unlikely to be alone. Competing services such as shown Spotify from similar applications, and Napster, of course, want to get in on the action as well. The real question is whether people will find valuable subscription music capabilities. For a free, ad-supported services such as Pandora already dominates the center of attention, it remains to be seen whether Rhapsody will be able to convince new customers to spend about $ 15 per month for unlimited on-demand streaming music.
The blog, Rhapsody also revealed plans to develop applications Android. It is not known whether this version will offer more flexibility (local storage, over-loading of air) than the version for the iPhone.
