Reports of the Zune boards Thursday morning, when people have tried the Microsoft recommendations and fellow Zune users proposals, ranging from hope …
“In destroy the process should be only a minute or two. If she hangs on this screen, disconnect it from power, let the battery drain, and then proceed to the device again,” wrote a user Raw Deluxe forums on the Zune.
… to the melancholy:
“Mina never made it back. The battery drained OK, but he tried to start my season, and is now good and dead. I talked to support, and they agreed - it brick,” wrote brotherdiesel.
Dozens of Zune users on Wednesday - the last day of 366-day leap year - reported that their 30GB Zune device blocking action. Complaints rippled across the board, as people download gadget and found they could not reach their songs or pictures.
By the middle of the day, Microsoft has identified the root of the problem: Zune internal clock has been split, as she tried to cope leap year. (See the Microsoft Zune support site for more information.) What would begin to resolve themselves, the company said in its Zune 30 FAQ, by noon GMT (4 am PT), and he informed users with frozen Zunes follow these steps:
1. Turn off your Zune from the USB and AC power source.
2. Because the player is frozen, it will drain the battery - it was good. Wait until the battery is empty, and the screen goes black. If the battery is fully charged, it can take several hours.
3. Wait until after noon GMT on Jan. 1, 2009 (it is 7 am Eastern, or 4 am PST).
4. Connect your Zune or USB port on the back or your computer or AC power through Zune AC adapter, and let it free.
One ZuneBoards forum users claimed that the problems identified in the actual place an hour driver code. (Hat tip to Ars Technica Home baths Post.)
“In the Zune in real-time clock shop, in terms of days and seconds after 1 January 1980,” writes a user itsnotabigtruck. “The first Zune interface to access the clock by the end of boot sequence. This is the code that reads the clock and converts it the date and time.” The post continues:
Under normal circumstances, it works just fine. This feature saves deducting either 365 or 366 until it gets to less than one year in the amount of days, which she then turns into a month and day of the month. In fact, if the last day of Leap Year, it keeps happening until it hits 366. Thank you, if (days> 366), it stops deduction if anything happens to the loops on the leap year. But 366 is too large to get out of the loop, which meant that the Zune supports playing forever, and to do nothing.
For those who have not yet encountered problems, Microsoft said, to refrain from Zune to connect to a computer before noon GMT on Thursday.
To disconnect the battery, or not to disconnect the battery
Microsoft strongly recommends that users ignore the advice from visitors to the forum, which proposed removing the battery to reset the Zune device:
This is a bad idea, and we do not recommend opening your Zune themselves (for one thing and doing so would invalidate the warranty). However, if you have opened it, do one of the following:
• Wait 24 hours after discharge Zune, and then synchronize with your computer to update the enjoyment of rights, or
• Remove the player using the Zune software (Go to Settings, device, Sync Options, delete all contents) and then re-sync it from your collection.
Judging from the forum comments Thursday morning, however, how many people actually disconnected the battery.
“I’m tired of waiting ….. opened it and made a Hard Reset. Impression that” works “, is the reason for his now tell me connect it to your computer and open the Zune software and recovery. I think will see it … .. Hope all is well on the way to recovery, “wrote floozuki.
At noon Pacific Time on Thursday, some users have found life returning to normal for their Zunes: “Low back today, just as advertised …. all the songs are intact … Do not worry …..,” wrote DadGuy, although it was not clear which method of restoring them to follow.
But others griped, that New Year’s stay was just the latest in a series of problems they would have been facing. Said emilysuz:
I tried to button combos, there are currently stuck on “Relationship Zune to a computer, but now it’s connected to your computer. I had a problem with this case fopr days before widespread disaster, and I began to think it’s just your garden variety piece of shit. I loved my Zune until the battery will not charge. Maybe my Zune troiuble this is not the same. He refuses to charge, it charges only long enough to tell me my battery is low, and then he dies again, even if it is connected activities. It will not be synchronized, wired or wireless. Again, I love my Zune, but if he is dead is not good for me.
User JediFarfy tried to soften emilysuz on the Zune was not able to Sync:
Mines are not the first, so I do not disconnect it and again it on both ends (Comp and Zune). Approximately 4 times, and finally connected. Your Zune has been rough, confusing day, give him some love, and this will be good.
