In the UK, top smartphone iPhone for e-mail, Web use

iPhone users in the UK to rely heavily on their devices to access e-mail and Web-based content, compared with owners of other smartphones in the country, according to a report released on Thursday, market researcher ComScore.

During the three-month period concluding in January, ComScore found that 79.7 per cent of UK iPhone users to access news and other information, the Internet with their iPhone. Contrast that to 48 percent for all users of smartphones.

And e-mail has also struck a chord, with 75.4 per cent of iPhone users rely on the device to check their mailboxes and send messages, compared with 35.4 percent for all users of smartphones.

While the U.S. smartphone users may assume that web surfing is the only reason to get a smartphone in the first place, apparently, this is not the case in the United Kingdom.

“Over the past several quarters, the UK smartphone market dominated by N95, which has no QWERTY keyboard. As a result, we see that smartphone users use their devices for music and photo messaging, two types of activities for which these devices Nokia is particularly well suited more than e-mail, Alistair Hill, analyst ComScore, says in a statement.

Currently, iPhone users account for only 2 per cent of UK mobile phone market, said ComScore. The number of UK iPhones reached 1 million in February, according to the Spanish telecom carrier Telefonica Europe.
