Gmail, click on the iPhone? Meet GPush

The arrival of push notifications to Apple iPhone 3.0 Software whipped up waves, although its real-world application has users wanting more. On Monday, Tiverias Apps has released GPush (Link iTunes), Small (0.3MB), 99 cents, that the application fills the gap with the push notification for your account.

GPush alert you of incoming Gmail messages with a red icon badge and clock, and translucent windows warning that reads the sender’s name and theme. (You can change this in your system tray.) Application of the interface itself is not enough, in addition to the collection of log information in one, and manually reregistering your credentials. Everything else is working behind the scenes.

As GPush do? The fair, in our tests, but not for advertising we have seen elsewhere. Many of the signals for the incoming e-mail came through, or after sliding the phone to wake it from sleep or during active use iPhone. Nevertheless, many others delayed or not transmitted from the server at all, although they still show in the mailbox.

GPush developers said by telephone that there can be problems when the phone frequently switches between Wi-Fi and 3G data, and loses the data connection. In these moments of instability, GPush will be the new message queue for notifications. When iPhone gets its service, GPush sends only the most recent notification, the apple to keep the signal from limiting flooding the screen.

If you rely on Gmail, GPush, perhaps, is the dollar risk, especially if it is not your habit of continually checking in the field. PushMail ($ 4.99) is a competitor to other third party costs App iTunes Store, but it is different. Pushmail sends e-mail redirected to your “dopushmail.com” address, not just incoming Gmail. It takes more installation and maintenance, because you need to forward messages to another email account, but for those who crave privacy, above all, to prevent rejection of the password and login, in May, is worth the additional cost and setup.

GPush available now from the iTunes Store for 99 cents.
