FTC continues to probe Google-Apple tie-UPS
Executive Director of Google, Eric Schmidt has resigned from the board of directors of Apple, but that will not be enough to limit the probe by the Federal Trade Commission.
In a concise statement, FTC Bureau of Competition director Richard Feinstein said:
We investigate Google / Apple interlocking directorates issue for some time and commend them for recognizing that the exchange directors raises competitive issues, like Google and Apple are increasingly competing with one another. We will continue to investigate the rest of interlocking directorates between companies.
Reuters reports that Schmidt had resigned, as a rule, the FTC closed the investigation of interconnected boards. However, the former Executive Director Arthur Levinson Genentech is on the boards of Apple and Google.
It is likely, Levinson will be forced to choose one of the companies.
