First impressions: Palm Pre
Well, I am pleased to say that I was wrong. My colleagues CNET News Ina Fried and Tom Krazit done a great deal to cover the press conference and reporting on the basic specifications of the pre-Palm, but I would like to put my two cents on what I think, in the pre-and Web Palm OS and what implications this will have on the market.
The user interface and operating system
In my opinion, the real event is the pre-user interface and operating system. UI has reminded me of little HTC TouchFlo interface, with different gestures scanning and cool animated movements, but, of course, Palm put a fresh take on it. This is a beautiful and smooth, and just great. It is quite obvious that Palm put much thought into the user interface, as well as all seamlessly working together to give you maximum comfort for users and smartphone indeed a useful tool in your daily life.

Synergy of Palm Pre
(Credit: Corinne Schulze / CBS Interactive) smartphone makes it easy multitasking with a deck of cards feature that allows you to select from a variety of applications and switch between them without having to open and close the window. This slick, but most importantly, very simple. I also think it is a huge player Synergy, as it brings all your email account and calendar and contact information from various sources in one place. Again, this is the case for the simplicity of whether you are a consumer or business user, you must love it.
Design
To facilitate this, all the best development. First, you have a multitouch screen, which is absolutely clear and brilliant colors and a half VGA (320×480) resolution. Not only you can use the screen to navigate, the gesture of the right of the display, where you can use your finger touches and swipes to start menus, toolbars, applications, back or forward. Of course, my favorite part may slide into a full QWERTY keyboard. I made it no secret that I am a huge Texter and need physical buttons, so I was more than pleased when I saw that the smartphone has been the keyboard. Pre-in keyboard that is similar to Palm Treo Pro; button a little less on the side, but a good amount of space between them in order to reduce any problems.
Again, looking at the design of the phone, I can tell you the time and effort has been spent on the device. Hardware feels solid and not as plasticky Palm Center. When you slide open the Pre, she slight curve that makes it comfortable to hold against your cheek when talking on the phone or even in the recruitment of the report. In addition, starting with touch screen, in its view, respond, and - hurray! - On the web page, you can pinch the screen as the iPhone is easy to zoom in and out of pages.
Web
Pre-Web browser
(Credit: Corinne Schulze / CBS Interactive) Speaking of the Internet browser is pre-eminent. He makes the sites on the screen as you see on your desktop, and quickly at that. When asked about Flash, Palm said that they were not commenting on that at this point. We know that there will be OK to store and Palm will release SDK for developers. The company reiterated at a press conference that the Web Palm OS was built with developers in mind, and based on HTML, CSS and Javascript, so that all one really needs to know to create applications for a Web OS and other devices.
Multimedia
With regard to multimedia, Palm Pre offers 3-megapixel camera. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to snap any photos, records, but too early to say that the quality is very good. Unfortunately, the camera will not be able to record video at this time, but they can be added in the future. In terms of music, like T-Mobile G1, Palm, together with the Amazon Music Store, so you’ll be able to purchase songs over the air with their pre.
Misc
Palm Pre offers so much that I can write on it forever, but I save in reality, when we get the unit in the survey. (By the way, I’m not sure when it will be, but I do not expect that it will be soon. I know. I’m sad, too.) Only some quick specs: Pre offers integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 (with support Bluetooth stereo), EV-DO Rev. and GPS. There, 8GB of storage, 3.5 mm jack for headphones, as well as high-speed USB 2.0.
Outlook
Palm and Palm OS pre-Internet does not necessarily revolutionize the smartphone market, in that it does not offer any crazy, new opportunities, but it definitely brings a fresh look at how you interact with the device and how it organizes information. It also brings the innovation and life against the company and, of course, set tech world abuzz. Palm certainly taken the beating in the media and the general public, so pleased to see the company respond and take action.
It is important to pre-Palm, smart phones will also be a key player in the Sprint. She needs to sign the phone to compete with the likes or AT & T and the iPhone and Verizon Wireless and BlackBerry Storm and Pre could certainly be one of the earlier Sprint. Prices will be key, of course, but I suspect will be pre-competitive prices with the iPhone “and” Storm. “I also think his chances of overtaking Storm are quite high. It offers users more and more consumer appeal. There are still some unresolved questions about everything that will be offered to advance, in my opinion, and I know these words are thrown around a lot, but I think, Palm Pre could really be tough competition for the iPhone.
Palm took a little gamble announcing a product early in the CES in 2009, but no closer to the date of its issuance, which is expected some time during the first half of 2009. Both Palm and Sprint will have to follow the order to fulfill their promises and did not delay the phone. (You can pre-register for the Palm Pre Sprint web site.) Nevertheless, Palm OS and the Internet, of course, were all happy, and I can not wait to get their hands on some quality time with the final product. You can check out Palm Pre photo gallery and, of course, we will update you as we get more information, but now I would like to hear your thoughts on pre-and Palm OS.
