CES 2009 Preview: Cell phones and smartphones

As the holidays approach, we see more than the gift shops and spiking eggnog; we think of the CES, which hangs shortly after New Year’s Day. While mobile phones tend to play a supportive role in the CES, I guarantee that we will see several new phones debuting. Of course, Apple has always shuns the event for their Macworld - it runs the same week as CES - but most of the major players will be Sin City. Since most ads are covered by a veil of secrecy before the show, we do not have anything to report to the company only so far. However, if we had a crystal ball, this is what we would like to see:

Touch-screen phone
If there is a trend in 2008, it was touch-screen phone. Including iPhone uberhyped, we saw a lot of touch on the model, especially in the second half of this year. They include smart phones like Samsung Omnia and LG Incite, but also the middle class of phones, as Samsung Eternity behold. We suspect the touch screen is likely to continue into the new year. We will defeat all the major players at CES to see what they have their sleeves, and you never know what might occur.

Camera phones
While camera phones have the back seat to music phones in the last couple of years, they are now back in place. Recently, we have considered three high-end Camera Phones: 5-megapixel Motorola ZN5, Sony Ericsson C902 and the 8-megapixel Samsung Innov8. Only ZN5 landing in the U.S. carrier. It offers integrated Wi-Fi for easy loading of photos. We look forward to even better camera phones in 2009, the CES will be the beginning. And do not worry, music fans, as you’ll see a few new mobile phones, too. Motorola Rokr E8 was born at CES last year, and he won our best of CES award in the category of mobile phones.

Messaging phones
Messages phones took off in a big way at the end of 2008. And when we say reports of phones, we are talking on phones built texting more complicated devices. In fact, we have seen eight such phones this fall, and we do not expect that trend to stop anytime soon. Look for more messages on the phones of CES in various styles.

Smartphones
In a press-T-Mobile G1, RIM BlackBerry Storm, Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, as well as other visible devices, 2008 has been a big year for smartphones, so that it could be outdone? Of course. While we do not count on too many new models at CES 2009, we expect to receive some time on their hands with hot Nokia N97, to see if it really worth all the Buzz.

At the front of Android, Sony Ericsson has just announced that he will go to the Google Android smartphone in the summer of 2009. In Las Vegas, we will collect the company’s brain to see what he has in mind. We will also talk with the HTC, which plans to have the entire portfolio of Android devices summer. We also see a change in the platform of Android, including new applications and functions.

Bluetooth Headset
In view of the relatively recent high-profile radical driving laws, we will see even more Bluetooth accessories than ever before. We can see the headset all shapes and sizes, and in-car speakerphones will withdraw too. We also believe, stereo Bluetooth will be standard in most, if not all, of headphones.
