AT & T plans to double the speed of wireless broadband by 2011

AT & T announced Wednesday plans to double its speed wireless broadband network by 2011. Go to the technologies HSPA and LTE networks in the end, will begin later this year.

AT & T Randall Stephenson told the director about the plans for the carrier’s D: All Things Digital conference in Carlsbad, Calif. “We’ll go ahead and deploy some fairly aggressive wireless broadband,” said Stevenson.

HSPA, which are on a high-speed packet access, is the next evolution of the carrier’s 3G wireless broadband network. Despite the promises made by the peak speed of 7.2Mbps, slower speed is more likely in the real world use. AT & T currently UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) network peaks at 3.6Mpbs.

The nation is the second-largest carrier also announced that the transition to HSPA will allow him to proceed with its testing LTE technology for initial deployment in 2011. LTE (long term evolution), which Verizon also adopted, is the technology of 4G, which promises to peak speed, at least, 50Mbps.

Upgrading to HSPA is one of several initiatives that AT & T announced this week. The carrier also plans to expand coverage in the range of GSM 850, the deployment of 2,100 new cell sites across the country, and to add 20 new 3G markets, a total of 370. Moreover, the carrier has promised to increase Wi-Fi coverage to the fact that smart phones and laptop cards will be able to easily switch between Wi-Fi and cellular networks.
