App stores galore Mobile World Congress

BARCELONA - If imitation is a sincere form of flattery, then Apple’s largest competitors are laying on the love a bit thick.

It seems that the phone people are not only trying to match Apple in terms of cool new touch screen device, but now they are all clamoring to develop its own version of the store, where users can easily find and download applications to their smart phones, and developers can easily create and the revenues from these applications.

Rumors have been flying around Nokia, the largest mobile Maker of the world, will open its plans for its own application store for its press conference here at the GSMA Mobile World Congress on Monday morning.

But Nokia is not the only company hit square store games. The Wall Street Journal reported recently that Microsoft is also preparing its own application “bazaar”, which some people expect will be announced here this week. U.S. firm Amdocs software that provides services and software for wireless operators, also plans to announce a “white label” Application for the KTM shop that will allow carriers to offer an application store, with its own brand.

Application of the market frenzy to great success in the App Apple Store, which provides for applications for the iPhone and IPod Touch. Shop, which works in partnership with Apple for iTunes music and multimedia online store, launched last summer.

Mobile phone market has been wildly successful with thousands of developers to create new applications and add them to the site daily. Apple said last month is a total of 15000 applications via the App Store. A user downloads from more than 500 million hits in just over six months.

Shortly after Apple announced App Store, the other smartphone companies started to jump on the winning. In October, when the T-Mobile introduced the G1, Google announced that it has been the creation of web applications store for all your phones Android. BlackBerry Maker Research In Motion, followed suit with its application store ad.

Throughout the world recession hurt sales of new mobile phones. In fact, IDC recently reported that in the fourth quarter of 2008, sales declined by about 12.6 percent. But smartphone sales of nearly 22.5 percent in the fourth quarter. What makes these phones are attractive cool applications that can work for them. And, as smartphones become more popular, experts say that applications that run on these phones will be high demand.

Therefore it makes sense that companies looking to sell these complex devices would provide its clients with cool applications to use them. But the repetition of the success of Apple will be hard.

Apple has been very successful mechanism for distribution through the iTunes Music Store, where he first began App Store. But in addition to its spread, Apple, seems to have gained the right to two other key elements of the puzzle. First, the company has nailed the hardware development of the device. And consumers like it. Secondly, iPhone software, which is not perfect, works quite well and provides many advanced features. And because it is based on the Apple computer operating system software, but several friends of developers creating applications that make iPhone a bit easier, as well.

So far, none of Apple in the company’s competitors may compete in all three areas. For example, Nokia has developed a solid equipment. There is no question the company can build a phone. But the construction of the phone with software that can make a slick bunch of other things that do not call it difficult for the company. Moreover, the company lacked strong distribution channel for their applications and services. During the year, this building was Ovi platform. He began his music shop. But the company still lags far behind Apple in one of these areas.

Microsoft has software experience and knows how to distribute it. The company successfully distributing games and other content through its service Xbox Live. But Microsoft does not have its own construction and design of the phone. Instead, it licensed its software to several other organs of the hardware, none of them came with a truly compelling device to take on iPhone.

There is no doubt that the battle for the smartphone market is far from complete. In fact, this is just the beginning. But my prediction is that it takes more than a copy cat application stores the match excitement iPhone.
